Coaching and Mentoring - 5 Great Tips For When You Coach and Mentor Others

Although coaching and mentoring are viewed as two totally different fields, they are the same in so many ways. They are geared towards helping other people improve the quality of their lives, realize their full potential, and reach their goals.

Here are 5 great tips that you can use regardless if you are coach or a mentor:

1. Active listening. Whether you are a coach or a mentor, you need to practice active listening each time your clients are talking. You need to know where they are coming from and the things that they are struggling with and this will not happen if you are not willing to keep your mouth shut.

2. Communicate high expectations. Before you start your first session, make sure that you tell your clients that you have faith that they will perform highly. You will need to do this to boost their self-confidence.

3. Build relationship first. Don't even try to start coaching or mentoring your clients unless you build relationship with them first. They must see you as someone who is genuinely interested in helping them out and not just another person who is just after they money.

4. Improve your communication skills. This is very important as you'll be communicating with your clients on a regular basis. Improve not only your oral but written communication skills as well. You must be able to articulate your thoughts and ideas flawlessly.

5. Impress your clients. One way to show your clients that you are truly interested in helping them out is showing your willingness that you'll go out of your way just to make sure that they'll be able to reach their goals.
